Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)

EFT has resolved issues with many of my clients who struggled with dysfunctional thought patterns and behaviors that played out in their lives for years, creating misery and an inability to function fully and feel joy in life.

EFT, sometimes called “tapping,” is a healing approach based on ancient Chinese healing philosophy. Gary Craig is the founder of EFT's present formate and training of professionals in its use.

“EFT combines the physical benefits of acupuncture with the cognitive benefits of conventional therapy for a much faster, more complete treatment of emotional issues, and the physical and performance issues that often result,” says Gary Craig, founder of EFT.

It focuses on the meridian system, a set of channels that conduct energy through the body. This is the same physical and neurological system used for acupuncture and acupressure. Disruptions or blockage of the flow of energy through systems in the body accumulate and cause a variety of physical ailments and emotional issues. Clearing these energy channels can bring relief and/or resolution faster than traditional therapy or counseling methods alone.

If you’ve tried everything else, and still feel that you are “stuck” and left with unresolved issues, EFT may be just the assist you need to move your healing process forward and give you lasting results.

How does this play out in an EFT session with me?

To begin, the client brings up an issue they want to work on. This may be an obsessive thought, a fear, a phobia, anger, any personal or emotional concern they want resolved. The issue can be a big “T” trauma (such as near death experiences, rape, abuse) or a little “t” trauma (the small events in life that don’t even seem to be traumatic but end up affecting us in profound ways).

Using my client’s own words associated with their issue, I will introduce a specific tapping protocol. I repeat aloud the client’s words and associated feelings, while the client gently taps through the designated meridian points on their head and chest that I have outlined for them.

We repeat this process until the client no longer feels emotional intensity or distress around the issue. Working on an issue may take several sessions, depending on the severity of the issue. Sound strange? Impossible?

The truth is that we don’t know exactly how Emotional Freedom Techniques work, but the evidence is clear: EFT is a route to healing, a relief from pain and anxiety.
